Unless you stay in the military and max that TA out until you get your pre-med bachelor's (perhaps 10-14 years time), your GI bill is only gonna pay a moderate portion of your schooling needs. And tuition assistance will pay something like $3k a year. The GI bill will generally pay only for your bachelor's plus a little extra. You'll pay it off the same as the other doctors in your class. There isnt a huge difference between 250,000 and 350,000 in debt once you are an MD. Therefore, if you are already going to need to take student loans to pay for some of it, why not add in some extra money and do the whole thing. The military is only going to pay a portion of your way through school, unless you stay in for an extra decade maxing your tuition assistance each year. If your honestly dead set on it, I would start going to school full-time plus extra to catch back up. At 26 now, you are at a disadvantage already.
